FLAME µMM MIDI-MERGER-THRU
NEW MODULE AVAILABLE SOON

The “µMM” combines a MIDI merger, two independent THRU distributors and a TRS-A/B converter in just a small 4HP module. All sockets on the module are in MIDI-TRS-B format.

The basis of the MIDI merger with three inputs and three outputs is a small, powerful ARM processor with sufficient buffer memory. Up to three MIDI streams are mixed together on one output and can also be tapped via two additional outputs. Two LEDs signal how the merger works: one LED shows MIDI activity at the inputs and a second warns of too much data at the inputs.

The second functional group consists of two independent, separate MIDI-THRU distributors. The MIDI data at the respective MIDI input can be picked up and distributed at the three underlying THRU outputs. If necessary, both units can be made into a 1-to-5 distributor by connecting an output from the left group to the input from the right group (stereo cable).

The third functional group is a passive TRS-A to B converter. The TIP and RING pins on the stereo socket are swapped. For example, plug a stereo cable from a TRS-A output into the first jack and a stereo cable from a TRS-B input into the other jack. A MIDI-TRS-A can be connected to a MIDI-TRS-B module. This is also possible the other way around.

FLAME AIRLECTRON
NEW MODULE AVAILABLE

AIRLECTRON - DISTANCE CV RECORDER

The AIRLECTRON is a small, compact CV module with a distance sensor and recording function. The module can record the CV generated by hand movement over the sensor up to a length of more than two minutes. The sequence remains stored in the battery-backed RAM even after switching off.

There is a HOLD function to hold the CV at the current position above the sensor. Additionally, a GATE is set when the sensor is triggered. A START/RESET input is used to reset/start recording/playback.

The voltage generated is available at two CV outputs, bipolar from approx. +/-5v and unipolar from approx. 0 to +10v. Both outputs have a passive attenuator so that the voltage range can be set lower. The RANGE control is used to set the distance range (up to approx. 40 cm) of the distance sensor. The sensor is independent of external light and provides a logarithmic voltage curve with 12-bit resolution.

NEW FIRE UPDATE V1.03 AVAILABLE

WHAT's NEW!

The FIRE update provides new algorithms, MIDI controller extensions and more functions for the USER-CV inputs. In addition, some bugs have been fixed.

There are three other algorithms for sounds:

- COW BELL (for creating metal-like sounds with frequency shifter)
- xCLAP (for more experimental clap/noise sounds)
- WAVETABLE (wavetable oscillator with modulation LFO, filter, pitch envelope etc.)

USER CV extension:

All controls from the Panorama, Volume and Morph menus can now be assigned to the two USER-CV inputs. You can now control a sound in panning via CV, for example. The USER-CV menu has been moved to the MASTER menu (press the PAGE key in the MASTER menu), previously it was in the MORPH menu!

MIDI controller extension:

The controls for the Panorama, Morph, Volume and Master pages can be controlled using MIDI ControlChange commands. The CC numbers are fixed, but differ in the assignment of the MIDI channel. All voices normally run on channel 10. However, if a voice is played tonally (all note numbers can be received), the MIDI channel belonging to the voice is automatically assigned.

FLAME "+MIRROR" Dual Unipolarinverter module

The module is an inverter for exclusively positive voltages. It inverts an applied positive voltage so that the maximum value becomes zero and zero becomes the maximum value. The input voltage is therefore not inverted into the negative voltage range (mirror axis 0v), but reflects a positive voltage around an adjustable axis within a fixed positive voltage range from 0v.

There are 10 ranges, adjustable in 1V steps. The mirror axis is always on half of the set range. Negative voltages cannot be inverted with this module. Applied negative voltages are limited to approximately zero volts.

The module has two identical function groups. Applications are, for example, the inversion within positive voltage ranges, GATE inversions (0/+5v to +5v/0v), or opposing melody lines (in connection with a connected quantizer).

C-1U KNOBREKORDER - Knob & CV recorder

The C-1U module is a one-channel module for recording and playing back movements of controller. Those can be recorded with channel“s knob. The movements will be output as control voltage. The record time amounts to one minute maximal. The track can be played once only (one shot) or in loop. The speed of the play back or the output offset is controllable with the pot. There are an additional CV input for CV recordings and a reset input.

Track data remains permanently stored when a 3V battery is used to buffer the RAM. When the module is switched on, the recorded data is available again. The module can be operated unipolar or bipolar (set by jumper on the back).

The module size is 12HP in 1U format (intellijel). Availability soon (may 2022).

TAKT & TON LIVE SEQUENCERS (with distance sensors)

FLAME "TAKT" - Rhythm Sequencer

"TAKT" is a compact 30HP Eurorack sequencer module for playing or programming trigger/gate/velocity rhythm sequences.

The sequencer has 8 tracks with trigger/gate outputs, 8 velocity/modulation CV outputs and full MIDI functionality. Both outputs of the track can also be recorded independently of each other.

Live sequencing in looper mode is possible in two ways: SHOTS for playing "note repeats" or quantized triggering via keys or sensors. In the step sequencer mode, notes are programmed in the classic way or edited later.

Four tracks can be triggered simultaneously with four external distance sensors. These sensors are just 2HP slim modules that can be rack mounted at desired locations. These are connected directly to TAKT (sockets on the underside) with narrow and sufficiently long ribbon cables. TAKT also supplies the sensors with the necessary operating voltage. The 4 sensors and the connection cables are included in the scope of delivery. The sensors generate triggers/gates/accents and can be switched live as a set between tracks 1-4 and 5-8 (e.g. via footswitch).

Four syncable LFOs with VCOs for amplitude adjustment are also provided. The LFOs are equipped with many interesting functions. This includes different waveforms, phase, amplitude, speed and output voltage. This can be unipolar or bipolar (0..+5v or +/-5v) and additionally attenuated by AMP (amplitude) with built-in VCA. This means that the LFO outputs can also be adapted to modules that do not have an input attenuator.

Patterns can be switched live and are each up to 4 bars long. 4 patterns plus a fill pattern are saved as a scene. 30 scenes can be permanently stored in the module. This means that 135 patterns are available in total.

Additional inputs and outputs for controls are available. There are 4 CV inputs to be defined by the user, as well as 2 programmable analogue clock outputs. On the front there are MIDI input and output as 3.5mm TRS sockets. Another MIDI OUT and a MIDI THRU in MIDI DIN format are also available on the back. Firmware updates can be made via USB (Win-PC).

The module is currently still in the prototype stage, but is already being used live in a beta version (by the techno duo Flirren from Berlin).

FLAME "TON" - Melody Looper

"TON" is a 12HP wide Eurorack live sequencer module for creating two note sequences. There are two 1V/octave outputs with GATE/NOTE/VELOCITY. Notes can also be sent via MIDI. Both note tracks are independent of each other and can be used in different octave spreads. In addition to the analog connection, the module has full MIDI functionality. It can be synchronized via analogue clock or via MIDI.

The sequencer is designed as a looper. It plays a pattern of up to four bars in a loop. The notes can be played (or deleted) quantized with two buttons. One button is used for note repeats, another for setting individual events. The pitch is determined by either the potentiometer or the built-in distance sensor. The sensor works in a range of about 1 to 40 cm and is independent of extraneous light. Even bright sunlight does not affect it.

A 1-octave mini-keyboard allows transposing on the fly and setting a scale. Since the module has two CV inputs, it can also be used as a two-channel quantizer or arpeggiator. All settings of the current pattern are simply saved together in a patch. There are 5 banks with 7 seats each (per mini-keyboard) available. This allows up to 35 patterns to be managed. The patches can also be selected via CV or MIDI program change and can be saved and reloaded on the fly.

The pattern can be manipulated during and after the import with eg: gate length, velocity, random, last step, hold, mute, glide, scale and transposition. Both tracks can have different settings. With TRACK-Link, however, parameters can also be applied to both tracks at the same time. This is helpful, for example, with transpositions or duophonic playing.

ADDENDUM

We designed the two sequencer modules primarily for live use. In the live rack, space is usually scarce and therefore the modules, despite the large range of functions, be kept as small as possible. But it was just as important to us to achieve clear operation. The current designs are a result of these compromises. The equipment with distance sensors is certainly not an unimportant aspect for the stage performance, but it is also a lot of fun in the studio and rehearsal room.

We try to achieve a moderate retail price for both sequencers. Unfortunately, the component prices are currently rising a lot and can therefore not yet provide any specific information. Despite the currently difficult situation in the procurement of some components, we hope that the modules will be available from autumn 2022.

NEW ANALOG VOCODER

FLAME "VOCORDER" - Analog-Spectral-Looper

The Flame "Vocorder" module is a compact combination of an analog vocoder and a digital CV recorder (looper). The centerpiece is an 8-channel analog vocoder with a total of 16 analog bandpass filters for analysis and synthesis.

The analog generated analysis envelope CVs are digitized and output via the DA converter to the analog VCAs of the synthesis tapes. With the help of the record function, the envelope CVs of the analysis channels can also be recorded digitally and played back in the loop. You can manipulate the playback in different ways: swap filter channels on the fly (rerouting), change speed and playback direction etc.

The module can also be a "normal classic vocoder": the envelopes are then always looped through via AD / DA conversion (direct vocoding) and can of course also be recorded. The analysis unit is ineffective during playback because the envelopes are played back from the memory. The current version is very compact, the module is only 12HP wide - see photo.

There are two audio inputs for analysis (voices, drum etc) and synthesis (instruments). A monophonic digital oscillator with three waveforms and an analog noise generator are available for internal synthesis. There is also an unvoiced / voiced switch (controls the highpass with noise when there is sibilance). A respective mix controller is responsible for both synthesis sources. The VCO has a 1V / oct input and an additional direct audio output. The synthesis filters have audio outputs for odd / mono and even (mix of even / odd channels).

The looper recorder has the following functions: buttons for record, start, stop. A triple toggle switch for the playback direction forwards, backwards, ping-pong, another for the type of triggering: Loop, OneShot, Gated. You can record about up to three minutes. The playback speed is adjustable (also via CV). The sampled loop is retained in the battery-backed memory even after switching off.

In addition, there is a controller for rerouting the filter channel assignments from the analysis (or recorded channel) to the synthesis filters, also accessible via CV. A freeze function is also available.

The filter / cutoff control regulates the synthesis bands manually with a combined lowpass-bandpass-highpass algorithm, so the synthesis filters can also be used as simple audio filters.

Current (power consumption): maximum +12V: 220mA / -12V: 190mA

NEW QUAD MODULE

FLAME "QSLIDER" - Quad Control Voltage Source

The QSlider is an analog CV source with four 60 mm faders.
The control range of the four sliders can be set with two min / max pots.
The Min pot determines the output voltage when the slider is in the zero position and the Max pot determines the output voltage when the slider is in the end position. The slider now regulates between these two voltages. This allows you to restrict the control range and still have the entire control path of the slider available.

The reverse voltage is available at a second output socket (min and max are interchanged).
This means that the slider can also be used as a crossmix fader.

Two common channels can be operated unipolar or bipolar.
The voltage ranges are 0 .. + 10V or +/- 5V.
